Checking Sections for Unlinked Citation Text
Under the "Tools" menu, under "Admin Tools" you will find a link to "Find and correct Un-linked Citations". The form that follows allows you to specify a start page to check for these instances of unlinked text. You can also specify the maximum depth to search. Maxdepth defaults to 0 which will only check the start page specified. A maxdepth of 1 checks the start page and any child pages contained in the start page. Maxdepth of 2 checks the start, children, and grandchildren pages. Depending on the number of pages contained within the start page, you may want to use small numbers for maxdepth to minimize the system load during this process.
Once the start page EID and maxdepth have been selected, hit GO!. The system processes the pages, then provides a form displaying unlinked text instances of the format "(Authorname, 1492)" that were found as well as citation choices to link the text to. For each page that you want to correct, you must select its checkbox. You can also click on the page title and a new window will pop up, allowing you to examine the actual page text. Determine which citation, if any, that you want the text to link to, and select the radio button to the left of the citation. If no suitable citation was found, the only choice defaults to "None selected". Normally this means the citation does not exist on the system and needs to be created. The easiest way to do this is from the visual editor in the edit mode of the page.
Once you have selected all the pages you want to fix on this "run" of the tool, and selected all the citations to be linked to, click on Submit, located at both the top and bottom of the form. You will see a page of output text describing what was done.
NOTE: If you click submit, and changes were made, do not just click BACK, modify the form, and resubmit it. If this is done, the changes that were made will be made again, resulting in links being created inside of other links, and they will not work properly. Instead, go BACK twice to the Non-linked Citations Fix Tool and start from there. The resulting form will be clear of the first set of changes and will show the correct set of pages and unlinked text entries.
